This morning I wrote in my devotional book that this was our third Christmas in Zambia. It is hard to believe!
Our Norfolk Island pines are a little worse for the wear this year~perhaps the three trees need to be transplanted. The jacaranda seedpod ornaments have split open, spilling their seeds around the house. One of my favorite ornaments is the gold-covered aspen leaf ornament. The oldest on the tree is a ceramic angel that was mine as a child.
When Neal was here this month he helped decorate, which took all of about three minutes. But, we still played Bing Crosby's Christmas album, a tradition of ours for years. Usually we have eggnog, but I didn't even think about it this year.
Something that's become special to us since coming to Africa has been attending special Christmas services on the 25th. It reminds us what the day is all about. There aren't the usual trappings in Zambia surrounding the season. Many of them I miss. But, I am reminded of the true reason for the season~the Savior of the world's birth. From our house to yours, "Merry Christmas and a happy new year!"
