Things aren't made like they used to be. My Farberware cheese slicer, which I thought would last forever, broke. The metal wire, a very fine piece of metal, snapped. That was some hard cheese!
How to replace it became a problem. Wire here is too thick. Then I remembered that I had an autoharp tucked away in the closet. Surely the thin strings in the high octaves wouldn't be missed. I never strummed that high when playing "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho." And sure enough! It worked--problem solved.
I'm definitely becoming more Zambian now, as I solve problems with what I have on hand. Now I wonder if that cheese slicer could be used as a mouth harp? Or, will our cheese be musical? Hmmm!
