Ministering in Mutendere

Sunday morning Eric Forman, an elder from our home church, preached at the church of one of the APC pastors in Mutendere. Pastor Mung'omba ushered us into his office when we arrived. After formal introductions were made, we became seated in the sanctuary, an L-shaped building.

Speaking through an interpreter, Eric shared from I John 2:12-14. What was important about his simple message was the emphasis he placed on spiritual growth in the Christian life. Zambians truly need to hear that the life of faith doesn't cease at conversion.

Mung'omba's church holds two Sunday school sessions~one before worship and one after. This enables those who are late to the first opportunity, can hear the entire lesson. Interesting! Also interesting but not uncommon is their meeting outdoors.

There were three choirs, all which fascinated Eric, as he loves to hear such rich voices apart from musical accompaniment. I think the wheels are already turning in his head for recording some of the choirs' music.

Peter Mung'omba, Eric Forman, and Tracy
The pastor asked Tracy at one point if he would dedicate a couple's twin children. It was a surprise to both of us, but he rose to the occasion! Speaking from Psalm 127:1 Tracy admonished the parents that the Lord must build the house; he also encouraged the congregation that this couple would need their help.
Eric thought this was one of Tracy's best dedications. However, I noticed Tracy didn't hold the babies, his usual procedure when praying for the children. Not sure if it's because he couldn't hold two (I was anxious to get up and help him!), or if he thought the babies might cry. Zambian infants often start crying when whites are around as it can be a rare occasion for some.

It truly was a great day~very encouraged by the work Mung'omba is doing in Mutendere. And thankful Eric could be a part of it.
