A Soaking Present

It's not everyday that you get doused with a bucket of water. But here in Zambia it is a token of love and honor to have water dumped on you for your birthday.

Yesterday was Tracy's 61st birthday, also a day for class at APC. During break-time the pastors sang "Happy Birthday" and enjoyed some chocolate cake. With my two cohorts in crime, Kelly and Tyler, this birthday tradition was captured on camera. Under the ruse of needing a class picture for the website, Tyler lured Tracy and the pastors outside. Meanwhile, Kelly grabbed the bucket of water I had stowed away in a corner. For a brief second Tracy wondered why Tyler was focusing on him while taking the picture.

The answer was soon to follow. With great stealth, Kelly quietly crept up behind and let it fly! After the initial shock and surprise, everyone burst into laughter and congratulations. I had been sure to get Tracy's briefcase from him before-hand, which contained his computer. Thankfully, God protected his cellphone and wallet.

What a fun tradition! Tracy is well-loved!
