Instead of groaning when the electricity went out this morning, I began to think of all the activities I could do while I'm waiting for Zesco to flip the switch. Being without electricity at times still takes me by surprise, especially since our water supply is dependent on power. While we usually have a steady supply, we find it goes off from time to time for maintenance and for what is called "load shedding," or the sharing of power. So, I'm making this list to remind me that all is not lost, and that there are things to do without kilowatts.
1. make the bed
2. put away dishes
3. study for class
4. read the Bible
5. feed the cats
6. sweep the floors
7. write a blog
8. talk to our children on Skype
9. sweep the floor
10. play a game
11. pick up avocados from the ground
12. brush my teeth (with fridge water) and comb my hair
13. cut corn from the cob
14. weed the flower beds
15. make phone calls (while the phone stays charged!)
16. read the news or a book
17. fix lunch
18. call a friend, write an email
19. feed the dog (yes, God brought us a dog!)
20. organize my desk
21. write thank-you cards
22. give the dog a haircut and bath
23. put lotion on my hands
24. sort laundry for washing
25. chop green peppers
26. grade papers (ugh!)
27. write a lesson plan
So, you see there is plenty to do. And this exercise is a lesson in thankfulness as well. But I still hope the power comes back on soon!
