| Card and plaque from my students |
They took their final exam this morning, but before they did, their spokesman, Feston Siame, said a few words about being in English class. As Siame shared we laughed at certain points (about them causing problems for the teacher), and there were some teary eyes. At least mine were. Most of what he said I cannot recall~but what stuck with me was that I was more than their teacher.
Gradewise, one is failing. Several are in the "D" range. Most are in the "C" and "B" bracket. But I know most of these students have tried their best. Some have gray hairs, so I know how hard it is to learn something new when your brain is already full. And we have enjoyed one another these past six months. We've been more than a classroom. We've been a community. And I like that. It warmed my heart to hear that I'm their "Mom." At least they'll know that their "B" or "F" comes from someone with great affection for them.
