Gnomes In Church?

This past Sunday was a milestone for us. We made our first church presentation in Champaign-Urbana. In my hands you will notice our traveling gnome, which we're planning to take along during deputation. (I'm open to names for it, so feel free to suggest some.)

We were warmly received by a congregation of about 125 people. Tracy showed our power point presentation during the adult Sunday School hour. Many hours went into it and we owe a huge "thank you" to Ben Hilty for his expertise and time. There has been a steep learning curve for us in regards to computer technology. During the worship service Tracy presented our call to Africa to the congregation. A five-minute dvd, created by Ben, shared our 2005 trip to Zambia. Tracy also preached from Acts 1:1-5, challenging the congregation to be zealous goers and senders. Afterwards I manned our display table, answering any questions. I had sprinkled candy corn on the table as well as put some in a basket to illustrate that corn is a staple in Zambia. By the end of the morning, little hands had grabbed every bit of it!

Our first church presentation came at a crucial time for us. Since a lot of time had elapsed since our orientation, we felt like we were in a holding and waiting pattern. God has been teaching us many things about patience. To present our calling has greatly encouraged us in our journey. For this we are grateful. Please continue to pray for us as we speak to other churches and missions ministry teams.
