Myrtle Beach, Here We Come!

My daughter, Audrey, and I returned this past Sunday night from a week at Myrtle Beach, SC. Her in-laws kindly let us use their condo for a "final" vacation together. It was a wonderfully refreshing time and God answered prayers to give us a sweet time together. For two days we hauled our umbrella and beach gear to the sandy shores each morning. Audrey and I enjoyed swimming and riding the waves. What a terrific beach--the
entrance into water is gradual. There is little undertow. By mid afternoon the tide rolled in, covering up the little inlet.

On day three of our trip we rose early and drove north to catch the ferry at Cedar Island. This two hour and fifteen minute ride took us to Ocracoke Island where we caught another ferry to the Outer Banks. Once on the Outer Banks we stopped at the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. This is a lighthouse that was moved about a half a mile inland due to erosion. Moving it was quite a feat and it was accomplished without creating any cracks in it! The view was truly amazing and someone kindly took our picture at the top.

We drove north and reserved a motel on the beach in Nags Head for the night. After supper on Manteo Island we took in the "Lost Colony" play, an outdoor production. Vanessa Redgrave and Andy Griffith have starred in this excellent drama. It was truly one of the highlights of the trip.

The next morning, after sharing our motel with the ants, the beach beckoned me and I went for a walk. The sun was above the horizon and another gorgeous day had arrived. On my walk I saw a dead stingray washed up on the shore--can't think of them without thinking of Steve Irwin and his tragic death.
At mid-morning we drove north and visited the Currituck Lighthouse. It truly is the most beautiful one on the Outer Banks. Made of about a million red bricks, the Currituck had a forty-five minute wait, so we visited the giftshop instead!

After getting a few souvenirs we visited the Wright Brothers Museum in Kill Devil Hills. Hearing the talk (for the third time for me) of the Wright Brothers' endurance in giving the world the gift of flight moved me to tears. Did you know that pieces from the original plane were taken to the moon by Neil Armstrong on the first lunar
landing? I didn't. And, you can see here that Audrey and I had fun with the astronaut cut-outs.
What an amazing trip! The weather was perfect, God kept us healthy, and He gave us a blessed time together.
