Water heaters, or geezers, in Zambia look different from those in the States. They are either electric or solar, seldom gas-powered, and are mounted on the outside of the house on the roof or wall.
Even more different are rural geezers. Pictured here are Moses and Clement, standing next to the water heater they tended while we camped in Mushingashi.
The heater sits atop a tire rim and has input and output lines for the water. In the morning long logs are fed into the rim on the left side in the picture above, and kept burning throughout the day. The first morning we took showers there wasn't enough hot water, so Tracy asked the men to stoke it more. Problem solved.
It's really an ingenious contraption, don't you think? Zambians are so creative!
