The Grass Doesn't Have A Chance

Zambians love to work together. They make short work of any task when they tackle a job as a team. Be it washing clothes by hand, cleaning house, cooking, or cutting grass, their cooperation is like a symphony.

Swinging their mpangas (slashers) in unison, the students here at the seminary chewed through the grass yesterday. Each man had his own patch to slash. And because it is such hard work (I've tried it), they take a rest from time to time. I'm always amazed that they hang onto their slashers--I always expect them to slip out of their hands and go flying. But they don't. "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din"!
