I can usually smell a surprise a mile away, but Tracy got me good (I know, poor grammar) this anniversary. May 31st is our anniversary and this year we celebrated 37 years together.
The morning before we left Neal's house in Wisconsin, Tracy asked if we couldn't take the back roads to Rockford, which is where we were going to celebrate with supper and a visit to the mall. Being the obliging person I am (not!) I agreed. Besides, there would be less holiday traffic on the country roads.
I followed Tracy in the car while he felt the wind on his face as he rode the motorcycle. Up hill and down. Round and round the bends in the road. I knew he was having a blast. However, at one point I groaned when we were obviously turning AWAY from Rockford and towards the Mississippi. As we pulled into Galena, IL, I figured, "Oh, he's surprising me with supper here instead of Rockford." Still clueless.
As we drove up the hill out of Galena on Rte. 20, I thought, "Hmm, I guess not. We're just taking the long way around." Even when he slowed down and turned left I still wasn't sure what was happening. I followed him as he pulled into the parking lot of Bernadine Stillman's Bed and Breakfast. Then I knew he'd pulled a good one! My husband had booked a night at this B&B which was out of this world.
Built in 1858 this Victorian mansion overlooks the town of Galena and is owned and operated by David and Bernadine Anderson. David greeted us warmly and showed us to our room. When he found out that we were missionaries, David upgraded us to one of the nicest rooms and gave us a second night free! And, the breakfasts are phenomenal! It was truly a gift from God!
So, here's to a husband who won his wife's heart this week! I still can't believe you surprised me!
Want to try for 37 more? I love you!
