Crossing Kansas

On several occasions Tracy and I have remarked how happy we are that we're traveling by car. We're able to see America and by doing so, we feel like we're staying connected to our land of origin.

Tracy told his brother he didn't want to travel on I-70, so Rick helped him map out a different path across the mostly flat landscape; one that was more interesting.

After spending the night in Scott City
we rose this a.m. and went north to visit the ruins of Pueblo Indians at El Cuartelejo. These Pueblos had fled from Spanish rule in the mid 1600s. The Indians built these dwellings with no windows or doors, accessible only by ladders leading to the roofs.

One of Tracy's favorite movies is "Dances With Wolves". One of my
favorite scenes from that movie is when John Dunbar gently glides his hands across the wheat. I couldn't pass up taking a picture of Tracy doing the same.

We also visited the Steele Home museum, a prairie dwelling still standing. Most of the original furniture still fills the rooms. Huge cottonwoods surround the home as well as a rock pond and a spring house. Flying at 30,000 ft. we would have missed these sights. We feel truly blessed!
