Missouri Ingenuity

In preparation for today's coming storm Mom Singleton and I created a   covering for the windshield. The expectation of 24 inches of blowing snow extracted Mom's creative genius. For a minute I thought I was in Africa as Zambians are extremely ingenious when in need.

We chose a heavy tablecloth and using a hot glue gun we attached three garbage bags, a plastic casing for bedding, and a sheet of bubble wrap to the underside. I later learned yesterday that it was Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day--we had to celebrate! (Thanks, Carla!)

After tucking the edges of the tablecloth inside the doors we weighted the covering down. If you look closely you'll see on the driver's side a defunk iron. In the middle is an antique iron and on the passenger's side, a rock from Spring Hill, Missouri, Mom's childhood home. On top of the car is one of those therapeutic bags of rice that are nuked in the microwave. Pretty creative, don't you think?

And, as the wind howls outside and the snow blows horizontally today, we are thankful to know that if need be we can whip off that cover and drive away. However, I don't think we're going anywhere for a while!
