Remembering Our Passover Lamb

Andrea,Ian,Ireen,Tristan,Karen,and Derek
A few days before Resurrection Sunday the living room of our teammates, the Hiltys, was transformed into an Upper Room for a Seder meal. To make the guests feel like they were in a Middle Eastern setting, the Hiltys hung draperies, removed cabinets doors from their hinges to make our table, layered fabric on the boards, and set pillows on the floor for cushions. I truly felt transported to another time and place.

The Seder plate
With readings from a script we took turns sharing about the mighty acts of God in the Old Testament, culminating in the gift of the Passover Lamb, Jesus Christ, in the New Testament. Essential to the readings were various foods that were symbolic~a sweet apple relish called charoses, horseradish, parsley, salt water, an egg, lettuce, and the shankbone of a lamb. Because the lamb was in the oven we used a spiral noodle to represent the bone. Improvisation is a missionary's middle name! These elements were all placed on a copper Seder plate I had found at a garage sale for 50 cents. Quite a bargain!

Halfway through the Seder we ate our meal and how delicious! I wasn't sure if I would like the lamb, but Andrea did a fantastic job on it. After our tummies were full we concluded the Seder with communion. Since Tracy is an ordained minister he administered it and we remembered Him, the One Who laid down His life that we might live. Not only were our stomachs full, but our hearts overflowed with God's goodness in sacrificing His Son.
