First Day of School

As long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a teacher. As a nine-year-old, the carport of our house was my "classroom". There I would gather the neighborhood children and have them circle words in a book as I read their spelling words.

Growing up I had several wonderful teachers who fueled my desire to lead others to discovery, one of teaching's highest motives. There was Mrs. Tobias, Mrs. McLaughlin (my fifth grade English teacher), Mr. Johnson, Mr. Clark (who looked like Clark Kent), and Mrs. Hampton. My dream morphed during my college years from a teaching degree to one in communications, writing specifically.

Raising four children gave me the opportunity to homeschool each of them to various levels of education. Some of my favorite times with our children (in my opinion; you'll have to ask them) were during those years of home study.

Mr. McPherson introduces me to the class.
Last week I saw my dream fulfilled when I began teaching language arts at the Baptist Theological Seminary. The size of my class is similiar to homeschooling in that I have three freshman students~Kennedy, Phillemon, and Laban. Language arts includes grammar and writing, subjects that will benefit their Greek studies and research papers respectively.

John McPherson, the dean of BTS, introduced me to the class and told them to treat me well. I must say they are a great group of students and far more advanced in their English skills than I expected. Please pray with me that I would push them farther up the ladder in their studies and would serve them well. Praise God for this opportunity!
