Merry Christmas, Children!

Busloads of children from churches of two of our APC pastors arrived at Ciyanjano, ACTION Zambia's camp- ground and retreat center, for AZ's Christmas Outreach. With our fellow teammates, Tracy and I helped with the morning shift of about 45 boys and girls, ranging in ages from 3-10.

After playing on the jumping castle and playground, the children decorated t-shirts that read, "God Loves Me," with fabric markers. Each child had one marker, and it was a blessing to see how they shared the different colors so freely with one another. Today I saw Neza's and Abigail's shirts hanging on a clothesline here in Makeni after being washed~couldn't wait to wear them!

Pastor Patson Sakala, a recent graduate of APC, led the children in song and then shared the Christmas story, focusing on Jesus Christ as God's gift to them. Patson, from Mozambique, has a heart for children, having learned of Christ as a small boy. Although his message was entirely in Chinyanja, it was exciting to Tracy and I that we understood a lot of what Patson said.

A lunch of hotdogs, Jiggies (a type of chip), bananas, and juice followed. Before the children boarded their bus home, ACTION distributed gift bags of candy and school supplies, as well as wooden cross necklaces.

One of the day's volunteers, Martha Mbeya, told me yesterday that this event was such a special time for the children as their parents are unable to afford an outing like this. Organized by Kelly and Tricia Huckaby, ministry leaders of Ciyanjano, this outreach was a great day for a great reason.Well done. Well done.
