Office Chatter

Today while I was in the office helping file documents for our accountant, Jacob Nyirenda, we began talking about occupations and proverbs. Tracy being a carpenter was brought up, and I said that since Tracy left his work as a finish carpenter some time ago, he's built more things out of wood for his family than he did then.

I asked him if he'd ever heard the proverb, "the cobbler's children have no shoes"? He hadn't but he immediately knew what it meant and suggested a sister proverb here in Zambia.

Wopanga mbiya aphikira m'phale~a potter cooks his food on broken pieces of a clay pot. Potters are also busy like carpenters and cobblers earning a living that they have none of their finished products for themselves. Nyirenda explained that a buyer admires a clay pot and because the potter is tempted by making money, he sells it. To himself the potter says, "I'll make a pot for myself later." Hence, the proverb. I wonder what proverb an accountant might come up with for himself~any thoughts?

How about, "Where's my calculator?" for an accountant? A friend of mine said that about her husband, who is an accountant.
