The Tailor Makes A House Call

Derek Sichula, the tailor
We've been at our new house since February and I figured it was time to get curtains hung in the living room. Although we like the great visibility, Zambia's evening sun shines directly into the window and eventually will  fade the furniture.

Someone recommended Derek Sichula on our expat Facebook page, the Zambia Braai. What intrigued me about him is that he comes to your house for 80,000 kwacha a day, or roughly $17.

When I asked Derek where he learned tailoring, he shyly replied that he was self-taught. In the 70s his father, a miner in the Copperbelt, bought a sewing machine in order to sew patches on his children's clothing. As a child Derek began learning and since the late 90s he has been sewing professionally.

I've heard great things about Derek~so far it's 10:30 and he's sewing the lining on the curtains. Anyone want his number?
