We have been told by other missionaries that encouragement and financial support would come from unexpected sources. At our recent garage sale we found this to be true. One elderly lady, who had read about our call to Africa in the local paper, drove all the way from Sterling, about 35 minutes away. Assisted by her walker, she browsed our items, then sat down while her friend shopped. Although she didn't buy much, her encouragement to me was priceless. Several ladies from our church also came and "overpaid" for a quilt rack, rugs, and miscellaneous items. These gestures of encouragement and love reminded me of Paul's words to the Philippians, "Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account."(4:17) May the Lord bless these dear garage salers!
