Dora The Explorer Goes Parachuting

As Tracy prepared his message for this past Sunday we needed to come up with an object lesson. Because he was sharing the story of a parachutist who risked his life we were unsure if Zambians would understand what a parachute is so we wanted to create a visual. Out of a cloth napkin, twine, and Ireen Hilty’s Dora the Explorer doll, we made a parachutist. After several fields tests we shortened the strings and were satisfied it would work. However, on the way to church we found out from a Zambian friend that people do understand the concept of parachutes here. Also, there were open rafters in the church which would’ve entangled Dora. We had fun anyway. Thank you, anyway, Ireen!
