Free Wheelin'

The mountains of Colorado called us to vacation at the Taylor Park Reservoir with his brother, Cary, wife, Marta, and son, Gavin. Each year for the past 10 years Cary and his family have vacationed in a cabin overlooking Taylor Lake, surrounded by the Rockies. It has truly been a place of rest and peacefulness at over 8,000 feet above sea level. The drive alone to Taylor Park is worth the trip!
Yesterday we hopped on ATVs and traveled to the town of Tin Cup and Mirror Lake. Tin Cup, the town that time forgot, is an old mining town named for the practice implemented by a fellow named Frenchy. Upon arrival in the area in the 1880s, Frenchy set up a saloon with a wood plank and two tree stumps. Every miner who brought a tin cup could purchase a dose of whiskey for fifty cents. We would later eat lunch that day at Frenchy’s Place, a restaurant that serves great burgers.
Southeast of Tin Cup is Mirror Lake, a gorgeous spot where the fish were biting. The three guys put their poles in and were rewarded with a few trout. Marta and I entertained ourselves with reading, feeding the local ground squirrel, and singing songs from “Sound of Music”, much to our husbands’ dismay!
After lunch at Frenchy's we tried to beat the mountain rains home, but the rains won. Even with our rain gear on, we got soaked to the bone. At least we didn’t need a shower when we got home!
