IC Scenery

Thought I'd give you an idea of our surroundings at the International Council meetings in Atibaia. Brazil is a beautiful country and where we were was especially lovely. Here is the recreation room at Palavra da Vida (Word of Life). Inside is a billiards table which was rather skewed~two of the pockets for the balls were barely wide enough for the ball to enter. Only if a person made a direct hit could he score. Apparently they were biblical pockets~narrow is the way that leads to life! In addition, when a ball was shot from one end of the table to the other, its pathway formed an arc. Tracy played against two Brazilians who knew the table very well. Needless to say, he was slaughtered.

On the other hand, I scored by swimming laps in the pool against imaginary opponents. There was another pool underneath the rec center but it was too shallow for serious swimming. In the background of this picture you can see the housing where we stayed.

Behind the conference center was this view. Around the stand of pine trees and lake was a walking path which Tracy, Bestone, and I, walked several times during the week. On our walks we encountered geese, swans, and ducks. One duck in particular pulled at my heartstrings. Obviously tame, this duck had its wings clipped and but had no voice. It approached us looking for food, but its attempts at quacking were rather pathetic and I felt sorry for it!
