Not A Hookah

One of the neat cultural experiences in Brazil was to drink mate ("a" like in father; "e" has the long "a" sound) from this drinking cup. Fellow missionaries in Brazil, Jonas and Iria, brought their chimmarao to each session. The chimmarao held hot water. Both it and the cup were encased in beautiful, engraved leather. Made of silver the straw is called a "bomba". During one of the sessions the chimmarao was passed around for everyone to savor. The common opinion was that this herbal tea tasted like freshly mown hay. Not my cup of tea!
