A Troubled Bridge Over Water

One of the expectations a person has to throw out the window here is that when the city tears up your driveway, they won't be the ones to fix it.

Because of the heavy rains the city came through and tore up any driveways that were obstructing the flow of water. A large crane did just that and left us with no access.

The day after, Makeni built a makeshift bridge that wasn't exactly centered with the entrance. People driving across run the risk of their left, front-end colliding with the wall. Coupled with the rushing water underneath, it is a terror to drive across. Created out of wooden poles, planks, and beams, and patched with mud, it has given a whole new meaning to taking one's life into one's own hands. Under cloak of darkness at 11:30 that night, two men who will remain anonymous, reinforced the work done that day by buttressing it. However, it was only a matter of time before the bridge would need further doctoring.

Because it became mushy two days later, Tracy and Tim, with hoe and shovel in hands, patched the disheveled structure with more dirt and an I-beam. Tim ferried dirt from a mound nearby and Tracy tamped it down with the end of a hoe. Hope- fully it will last until the entrance is rebuilt.

Thankfully no one has been hurt and we've been able to get in and out of Makeni. Do pray that the Lord would
dry up the area. Many people are suf-
fering in huge ways. Because of the flooding people in some compounds have had to be relocated to a soccer stadium. Imagine the logistics involved in over 70 families moving from their homes~schooling, sleeping, cooking, and hygiene. Please pray for those affected by flooding here in Zambia.
