Afterwards we had lunch at the pastor's home where their son, Tyler, shared his love of falconry. He introduced us to his red-tailed hawk, Snicker, a magnificent-looking bird. An apprentice for several years, Tyler, educated us on many aspects of falconry. Snicker is weighed several times throughout the day. Did you know that this is the best way to judge a hawk's health? We didn't.
On our return trip we took the back roads, stopping for a few minutes at the grist mill in Franklin Grove. As we leisurely drove home we soaked in the autumn scenery. There's nothing like fall in Illinois. Will someone please send us an autumn leaf next year in Zambia?
