It's Coming Along!

Just wanted to let you know how the house is coming along. Someone told me the pictures weren’t showing up on the blog that I posted previously. So, I’ll try again. The first two pictures are of the outside of the house. The first is actually the back of the house and shows the windows of our bedroom (the farthest away) and of our guest room. You can see the lovely trail that the snails have left. After the rainy season their “gifts” will be scrubbed off, then the outside will be repainted. The next picture is of the front left-hand corner of our home. The sitting area is rather large and we’ve already begun envisioning our furniture in it. After the ceramic tile was laid the painters began covering the ceiling and walls a cream color. All that remains to be done in the living room are light fixtures and ceiling fan.

The kitchen needed the most remodeling as it needed to be entirely gutted. Here you see Tracy conferring with Basil, the cabinet builder. The kitchen will be beautiful once it’s done. I have to confess that before remodeling started I pretty much wanted to cry.

The laundry room is near completion. The workers today were plastering the outside of the walls, putting in air vents, and replacing window glass. I think they’ve done a marvelous job. The laundry room will also be large enough to house a washer, dryer, small freezer, and a wash-up sink with counter. In addition, Tracy wants to build a small stone patio off of the back doorstep.

We paid a worker this week to till a portion of our garden. He also made some impressive vegetable beds. This Saturday the Hiltys and we will be mixing fertilizer into the soil and planting. Right now is a good time to sow pumpkin, sweet potatoes, beans and green peppers. A lot of the time Zambians grow the first two in order to have leaves for their relishes.

Praise God with us for His provision and for His timing. The container hasn’t arrived yet but we don’t need it right now either. We’re able to stay in a furnished apartment which has made the transition much easier.
