Our House In Makeni

Our house in Makeni that is being renovated has two bedrooms, a large sitting room (living room), kitchen, bath, and toilet. I listed the toilet separately as it is in its own little room. I find this arrangement (probably an influence from the British) very appealing as it allows someone with a “need” to use the facilities if another is taking a bath. Mrs. Dil, with the help of a contractor, is adding on a laundry room, gutting and remodeling the kitchen, laying ceramic tile, painting, and putting in a ceiling fan and lighting.

Tracy and I walk down each day to see the progress that the builders are making and we feel privileged to be here and see our “landing spot” as a God-thing. It has an enclosed garden and we are looking forward to getting our hands dirty.

Our house is situated on 20 acres at the Makeni Ecumenical Centre. The center was founded by continuing Anglicans, a splinter movement of conservative Christians. Some time ago because of the liberalism within the Anglican Church, Mrs. Dil and her husband, Pierre, founded the MEC. Their spiritual heroes are J.I. Packer and John Stott. I particularly am excited about the opportunities for ministry here at Makeni, possibly teaching the children in the school or orphanage. The local bishop has also asked Tracy if he would be interested in teaching the theological students who are trained here. The great thing is it’s within walking distance! Give praise to God with us for His abundant provision and giving us the desires of our hearts.
