Last week Bishop Chikumbi of the Makeni Assembly of God Church spent time at our house. Tracy sought him out while on one of his daily walks, or “stretchings” as it’s called here. Bishop Chikumbi is the bishop in charge of finances for the AOG district of Lusaka. Sunday we visited his church and enjoyed the vibrant worship service. It is one of the larger churches in the area with 350-400 attendance on Sunday morning. The service was orderly and well led by the worship team and various other leaders. Especially interesting was their manner of taking offering which seemed more like a celebration than “taking the offering”. About six women, who were holding baskets covered with African fabric, walked to the front and faced the congregation. As we sang, “Come And See What The Lord Has Done”, the congregation came forward aisle by aisle and dropped their offering in the baskets. I thought it was truly a joyful time, reminding Tracy of the bringing of offerings in the Old Testament. After worship we discovered that the youth had washed our car for their fund raiser during the service. Of course, after driving home on the dirt road, the car needs another bath!
