Meet Peter and Wallace

Two of our buddies here at Makeni are Peter and Wallace, children of some of the workers. On Monday Tracy drove by the boys and asked them what they were doing. They replied, "Nothing." Currently school is closed for holiday so they have plenty of time on their hands. In typical father style, Tracy told them they needed to find something to do. After some thought we decided they could help me pick up the guava that lay in our yard. While we picked up the fruit that was in various stages of decay, we taught each other songs we knew. They taught me one about fishing for Jesus. I taught them "One Door". Neither of us had heard the other's song before. Wallace also told me that we have an apricot tree in our yard that should produce fruit in December. Since then I've learned it is actually a custard apple tree. We then carried six plastic bags of guava down to the piggery where a worker shoveled the fruit into the pens. The pigs were so excited that they put their forelegs on the pen walls in anticipation and grunted loudly. Rather scarey I thought. Afterwards Peter, Wallace, and I had tea and banana bread together in the backyard. It was a good day for this mother's heart!
