Livingstone, I Presume? Part Two

After breakfast Thursday morning we drove to Victoria Falls where we viewed “Mosi Oa Tunya”, “The Smoke That Thunders.” From miles away Dr. Livingstone saw the spray of the Zambezi as he came up the river for the first time. It truly does look like smoke from a distance.

Donning our ponchos and umbrellas we followed Adam as he discovered Zambia’s world famous attraction for the first time. For Tracy and I this was the most fun, seeing his delight in the surrounding beauty. As the water thundered around us I recalled a line from a hymn, “The God of heaven thunders; His voice with cadence echoes; and, we who are His people, within these walls, cry, “Glory, glory, glory!”

After getting soaked and having our fill and thrill of the falls, Tracy and Adam hiked down to the Boiling Pot, a 20 minute descent where the waters of the falls converge back into a narrow river. There the foliage reminded them of a rain forest and they discovered some bush rats. Zambians consider these rodents to be quite a culinary delicacy. The climb up was not as fast and I’m not going to say who reached the top first, but his initials are TLS. It was a great time away with our son and one that we will always
treasure.
