Tough Tuesday

The hardest part about having people visit is having to say goodbye to them. Today we took Adam to the Lusaka International Airport to catch his flight home. We've had a wonderful five weeks with him. Because Adam fit in so naturally here in Zambia, it seemed like he's always been here.

Although God kept him safe during his visit, last night was the exception. Within thirty minutes he did some damage to both hands. While the power was out he was slicing some cheese by candlelight and carved on his left thumb instead. The thumb just did not want to stop bleeding. No sooner had the bleeding stopped than I turned around to see him jumping up and down and trying to peel his sweatshirt off. I thought a spider or wasp had crawled down his shirt. "I'm on fire!" He had gotten too close to a candle or the cookstove and the back of his shirt was burning. With his hand he attempted to put out the fire and as a result the sweatshirt melted onto the back of his right hand. Despite icing it with cold water it still blistered pretty badly. We also invented the"aloe vera glove" to enable him to sleep better~filling a plastic surgical glove with aloe vera gel. Think we can get a patent on it?

There's one less towel hanging in the bathroom. It feels emptier in our cozy house in Makeni. But, we will treasure the time we had with Adam and look forward to the rest of our children visiting someday!
